Muang Boran (Ancient City)

located in Samutprakarn province, just to the southeast of Bangkok.
It covers 320 acres of land with varied landscape comparable in shape and form to the whole country of Thailand. In this open museum you will find numerous reproductions of palace halls, temples, stupas, stone sanctuaries, and traditional Thai houses plus reconstructed historical buildings, anthenticated communities representing many different villages of the country.
is at the present time world's largest living outdoor museum, where Thailand's past is recreated in its full splendour located 30 km away from Bangkok in Samut Prakarn Province. A drive through the 200 acres area will bring you to the most outstanding replicas of Thai architectures, cultures and lifestyles from all parts of the Kingdom. This tour will guide you to get the overview of the Land of Smiles in a few hours.

Thai House in Dvaravadhi-Style (see pic right) at Muang Boran is a replica of the Ruen Thab Kwan located in The Sanam-Chan Palace, Nakorn Prathom Province, which was designed by the Royal Architecture at that time Phraya Wissawakram Prasit.

It is a good virtual introduction of Thailand for first time visitors.

Getting to the Ancient City, Samut Prakan
Start from the Bangkok
  1. By Car or Taxi
Take the Express Way as far as the Samroang-Samut Prakan Exit. Turn to the Samut Prakan Intersection. Turn left along the old Sukhumvit Road (towards Bangpoo) until you get to km. 33. The Ancient City is on the left.
  2. By Bus
Take air-conditioned bus No.511 (Southern Bus Terminal-Paknam) to the end of the line.
From here, take the No.36 mini-bus. It takes you to the entrance of the Ancient City.
Muang Boran : Open everyday from 8.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.

The Ancient City has been constructed in accordance with the characters and appearance of Thailand and was divided into regions.
An Entrance of the Ancient City locates in Southern Region. You can walk through the Central part, then up to Northern Region and further to North Eastern Region. You can either turn to the Eastern part or straight to the Re-Creation part. The architecture of the Re-Creation part reflects the thoughts, beliefs and Thai talent.
